Creative Writing With Immersive Tech

Report

This board can help teach your students the different elements of creative writing. From different types of writing formats, how to structure creative writing and also describing the experience they have using VR headsets to watch 360 videos of different environments. For English Language students or teachers wanting to help students get the creative side of their brains working, this board can be really useful when used with 360 videos viewed through a VR headsets or just 360 videos shown and explored on an Interactive Whiteboard in a classroom.

How to Use

  1. Using VR headsets or a device with a screen, get students to view and explore 360 videos of different enviroments from snowy moutains to busy cities to spooky forests.

  2. Then after students have watched 1 or more 360 videos, get them to use the post it notes in the Senses frame to describe what they saw, what they might smell, what they heard or might hear and what could they touch in the video scenarios.

  3. The 3rd frame shows writing props that the teacher can discuss with the students on how to start creative writing. Getting the students to think about possible characters in their story, what kind of creative writing they want to do (song, short story, diary entry, etc), what genre they want to write their story in and also thinking how they want to start their story, what the middle of their story will reach and where their story will end.

  4. Finally, give the students a time scale to write a small piece of creative writing using the writing props, 360 video experience and senses they have talked about.

  5. Once the time is finished, you can ask the students to present their short piece of writing to the class. If nobody wants to go first, the spinning wheel can be used to choose the students at random.

I'm always up for a problem solving task and curious to learn new and different ways. I have a background in Film & TV so I also love creating visual media and also branching out into game development for educational purposes.
